Regina, My Queena

holy mary, mother of god.

soon to come: more about the robyn hitchcock jammy jam at two bells (preview: "do you know 'queen of eyes'?" do i, fook!) and the painful saga of the morrissey lecture in progress (27 hours and counting, btw). HOWEVER, let me just say that the regina spektor show at the crocodile last night was one of the best shows i have ever seen. she is a star, an incredible musician, a total fox, and a songwriter whose brilliance had be split between feeling massively inspired and feeling like i should just finally give it up because no matter what, the best thing I ever do will never be anywhere near as good as her most casual b-sides. there were many vectors worth discussing (including the satisfied, "oh yes, she will be mine" smirks on the faces of every dude in the room), but not now. no fewer than five people (including one local musician i really admire) told me they were there specifically because of my recommendation in this week's stranger, which usually makes me feel super awkward (that's not why I do it, I think but never say; i do it because I have no skill at anything worth doing). but not last night. last night i felt like buying a copy of her record for everyone I've ever met. She was so good that I couldn't even bring myself to say hello. robo and i just ducked out quietly, our minds blown, life affirmed. many thanks and all praise to regina spektor.
