Jam of the Year

Some of you may know that I have been trying to make a record of Harry Nilsson songs for the past few years. Some of you may know that, with the help of Mark Nichols and many brilliant local musicians, I made that record this year. Some of you may further know that I've been wanting to perform this album in a live setting. What you may not know is that the show is on. Like Rashomon. (citation: Forrestotle)

Nelson Sings Nilsson LIVE! Friday, December 8th at Town Hall in Seattle (8th and Seneca). The room is like a cathedral. Almost everyone who played and sang on the record will be in the show--which will mean me, singing in front of a 24-piece orchestra/rock band. A rockestra, if I may paraphrase Wings. I feel certain it's going to be a great show.

Did I mention "Awesome" is opening?

Now I am certain.

And it costs $10 in advance. Tickets available through www.brownpapertickets.com.

(And I'm the producer of the show, which means I have to pay for everything, from hall rental to insurance to bowls of M&Ms in the "Awesome" dressing suite, so if people don't show up, Christmas is cancelled!)

Thank you for your attention. I mean that in every way possible.

-Sean

There are many reasons I find LA to be increasingly obstreperous; currently top of the list - the revelation that Town Hall in Seattle is, in fact, not here. Congrats! and good luck (skill?) on the show.

If there was any way I could attend this show, I would. But alas, wrong side of the Atlantic.

AGAIN.

I am sure it will be as uneblievably fantastic as I am envisaging. Any plans to film it?

Well, its possible I already commented - but given technology and I don't always mix, here's another attempt.

Just got home from the show and KUDOS to you and yours. What a fabulous project. Super fun, and lots of good comments in the audience.

Good work!

Sean, kudo's to you and Mark and the rest of the musicians including the kidz for a very memorable evening at Town Hall. I'm an old Nilsson fan and was very pleased to hear and see that his legacy is being kept alive. Good karma, brothers, good karma! Harry was there in his bathrobe, hash-pipe in hand, digging it all!

That show was my favorite of the last five years. It was stupendous. Seriously. You even hit all my favorite Nilsson tracks with the exception of "Daybreak" (which I only love because my father played the Son of Dracula soundtrack for me when I was a kid).

Is there going to be a release of the recording of the show? Can we expect to see it in the live music section of archive.org? What can a fella do to listen to that again (or play it for his father who couldn't come)?

Again, seriously awesome.

It was absolutely the jam of the year. And not just because I don't get out much and it was nearly the only jam of the year. I left the baby on a gamble that you'd sing Miss Butter's Lament and you DID. Glory be.

After Evan said something to the effect that you'd be coming out next blah blah...'and Nelson Sings Nilsson', a guy behind us said in disbelief, "Nelson?? Sings Nilsson?" He either must have thought that Harry Nilsson was going to sing his songs himself, or he discovered that he was totally not at the symphony.
