Bustin' out all over
Last night, i had the rare privilege of buying 17 shots of tequila at once, as part of the far less rare (but no less enjoyable for its frequency) privilege of getting liggety loaded with my Stranger cohort. It was a one-last-time-before-my-ship-sails kind of moment that went long into the night, and filled me with affection for everyone. Even you.
And speaking of binges, I sweated out my (surprisingly mild) hangover by going on a desperate, spare-no-expenses spree at Easy Street, Queen Anne. The booty includy:
On CD (new):
Bill Fay-first record
Jens Lekman-When I Said I Wanted To Be Your Dog
Brinsley Schwarz-Silver Pistol/Don't Ever Change (double CD)
The Kinks-Everybody's In Showbiz (SACD, already regretting it)
Harry Nilsson-A Little Touch of Schmilsson In The Night (never had it on CD. how can you lose at $8.99?)
On CD (used):
Bryan Ferry-These Foolish Things (this is what my recent Roxy Music obsession hath wrought)
Bryan Ferry-The Bride Stripped Bare (likewise, I'm sure)
The Cars-Door to Door (I used to LOVE this record, 9th grade)
On Vinyl (used):
Todd Rundgren-Runt
Kraftwerk-Autobahn
George Harrison-Best of Dark Horse 1976-89 (out of print CD=$100; vinyl=$7)
Concerts For The People of Kampuchea (I caved after at least 15 years of pretending not to care while still being at least a semi-completist of 3 of the main performers)
Pell Mell-Interstate (one of Fisk's finest hours as a texturizer)
On Vinyl (novelty):
Norman Mailer reads from The Naked and the Dead
Richard Harris reads from Jonathan Livingston Seagull (!!!!!!!)
Mike Warnke-Alive ('70s Christian Vietnam Vet stand-up comic/moralist proselytizer; an absolute must, in memory of all the born agains of my adolescence who tried to shove him down the throat of my ears)
On DVD:
Soul Survivors (for obvious reasons; our special featurette is still my favorite non-music thing HD ever did)
Monkees-complete season 2
Sometimes these things just overtake me. It's sad, really.
Also speaking of binges, the new Harvey Danger record (release date: September 13) will be accomanied by a grip (if not a grippe) of Seattle appearances, including, but not limited to:
August 6-Crocodile (w/Razrez, Ghost Stories)
Sept 2-shhh.. it's a secret.
Sept 3-Easy Street in-store
Sept 3-Bumbershoot
Sept 17-Sonic Boom(s) in-store(s)
Sept 23-Fremont Oktoberfest
Oct 15-Crocodile (CD release show)
Oct 22-Vera Project (All-ages CD release show)
Plus radio appearances, TBA. Overexposure to follow. Good times.
